The Eastern Cape Legislature’s Human Settlements Committee wants the department to finalise its discussions with Buffalo City on the revitalisation of Bhisho.
In a report to the Legislature on the Budget of the Department of Human Settlements, the committee states that the discussions are around declaring the provincial capital a “restructuring zone” in order to contribute to the revitalisation programme by building houses for rental and private ownership.
It says the discussions with Buffalo City around the revitalisation programme must be finalised so that the building of houses can start.
The committee also wants the department to ensure that measures are in place to assist beneficiaries in the GAP market.
